No, I don`t mean they want a career. I mean that they want financial stability. That has very little to do with whether the women have careers.
The ideal here is for the mother to *not* work after she has a child. Society pushes that. But often the husband doesn`t make enough money alone to afford all the education a child needs... So the wife has no *choice* but to work - in most cases, she would prefer not to...

Actually, until there is enough money to quite working, a lot of couples don`t marry at all. It`s pretty common to have the first child in the year after getting married, so there is pressure to do so. If you can`t afford it though, you can`t afford it.
