Dont Get Robbed/Pickpocketed - 05-16-2007, 01:15 PM

Last year when I returned to Kyoto to visit relatives and family, i was pickpocketed twice. 1st time was at the airport and the 2nd time was at a Internet Cafe. Both times were by kids no more than 12-13 yrs of age. In total ive had over $200 usd and my pre-paid cell phone which i just bought.

When You visit/return to Japan, never ever carry a backpack on the streets is wut i learned. The pickpockets there are really good at what they do. Watch out for kids traveling in packs especially in airports. If you do not watch ur luggage, they were just take em and walk off with it. A large majority of these kids are either poor or orphans and they usually work in groups. So my advice, dont carry alot of yen on u and always try and get a waistpack so u can always feel ur important belongings wherever u go.
