"よう:YOU" means "situation" in this case.

You can add "に" after "よう".

>相手の短所より長所のほうに目が行くよう(に)出来て いることが、さまざまな心理実験で明らかにされている 。

It is proved that human being is designed to focus more in good point than bad point of the other person.

Other examples:

好きなようにやればいいよ。 You can do it as you like.
ぶつけないように気を付けて。 Be careful not to hit it to something.
まるで夢のようだった。 It was just like as in a dream.
見つからないように、そぉっと行こう。 Let's walk quetly so as not to be found.
