Japan taught China how to do bullet trains. The Japanese government is now offering the same technology to Russia. A senior official in the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry is heading to Russia next month to engage in preliminary talks with the Russian Railways president. If talks go well, a working group may be set up by this fall.
Russia could use a bullet train on their trans-Siberian route. Presently, it takes about 5 days to get across the country. Imagine how long it would take to build the Shinkansen tracks to reach that far. 12 hours or so from Moscow to St. Petersburg....one-third of the time.
Indeed a faster railway system would serve the giant Bear well...but, I can't imagine how much it would cost and how long it would take to reach to the corners of the world's largest, by size, country.
