But quite a few of these seemed to be in somewhat random places, covering up things that didn't seem remotely offensive. This made me think that it was you who added them, rather than being the result of actual censorhip.
Takashi Miike: Yes, it was me. From the start I thought about how big to make those mosaics and where to put them. In the end result, there was nothing at all underneath the scrambled patterns in some scenes. Many people feel negatively about the technique of covering things up, but I think it's a very Japanese form of expression, one that can be attractive even. I thought it would be fun to be in the position of those people who have to censor films and TV series, who decide where and when to put these cover-ups. From a technical point of view, I don't really have a negative attitude towards it. Also, from the moment things are covered up, we are stimulated and we start to imagine things that are even more grotesque or more beautiful than what was originally there. I wanted to provoke that kind of imagination in people, which I think is a very cinematic technique."

ILOVEJAPAN, I think you are a little more into the gore factor than I am, which is totally fine. I can see why you would like BATTLE ROYALE the manga more than the movie. I think in the manga the shock is in the gore, but in the movie the shock is in the fact that a group of high-school freshmen are forced to kill each other. The manga emphasizes the fact that they are the worst class in all of Japan, and the backstories prove that, but the movie doesn't emphasize that making us feel more sympathy for the students, and evoking more of an emotional response. I think both versions tell a similar story in different ways and with different results.

Yes I think I can agree with that (LOL) I do love violance
(LOL)
Im not sure why Im so obsessed. Im actualy a vegatarian and an anti-war envirmentalist
I have been wanting to read that book. I love Miike. Well, I think if he was going to censor some stuff it shouldnt have been that much. Especial at the parts where you an pretty much see whats under the censor, we can see it so why not let us see it more clearly? So anyways, yes while I did love the violance I thought it made the point better. It was trying to show how evil people are and how violant our world is...not including that makes the movie more shocking but it takes away from the statement the manga was trying to make.
