Did I buy the series to see the gore, was it more important than the plot? What were my expectations, and would I be disappointed if they weren't met? Etc. etc.

4) I generally agree that Manga are better than the movie versions, such as in the case of Uzumaki, but I think the Ring is a manga that fails. The characters are far too cutesy for a horror manga, and the actual creepiness of the video tape itself cannot be portrayed without sound and moving images. It's a decent enough manga but perhaps it could have been a lot better if drawn by an artist such as Junji Ito, who just manages to draw everything in a more darker, creepier and realistic style.
I have thought about if I would have liked somthing if it wasnt gory if I would like it just for the plot. I dont think somthing has to be violant for me to enjoy it. If it has a really strong plot it dosent need gore. I have seen and read stuff that I loved that wasnt gory. Although, gore helps. If somthing has a strong plot and alot of gore I somtimes find myself thinking about wether Im watching/reading for the plot or the gore. I find that If I think about it to much it just ruins the story. So I dont think about that. But for the most part I think I just enjoy both gore and plot so a sereise could be missing one thing but have alot of the other either way I would probably like it.

In some cases I actualy got bored of the repetative violance because there was no story. In the case of Gantz I was bored after the first few volumes because all they did was go into the game and kill alians...over and over and over...its like...whats the point?

Hm...the manga version of RING is hard to describe...its mostly done by some guy name "MIEMU" (or somthing like that) but they used a few diffrent authors, and this miemu guy tryed a few diffrent styeles. I generaly agree that horror manga usualy needs to have a serouse style for me to take it serously, but for some reason I thought RING was somthing I could take serously. Although I was more impresses with the art style in volume one then the other volumes.

One artist who does some really good horror storys is HIDESHI HINO. He's great but his art style is so cartoony its hard to take serously. Im not sure if this is what he was going for but with a lot of his storys Im more liley to laugh then to gasp or scream (not that I ever do that when reading manga). Although some of his storys are drawn in a very realistic style, those storys I like a lot more. Im also a fan of his Gunea Pig films. Has anyone seen them? They are extremley gory.
