That explains a lot. Go with the Japanese airline then if it is at that price. Being from the east coast, I forgot that prices to some major cities and the west coast can be a lot more affordable for flights to and from Japan.
For me to fly from NC to JP, I can expect a minimum of 1200 dollars. 600 would only buy me a one way. If you are really interested in knowing which is better, JAL or ANA, I would put the question to Nyororin since she's been here a bit longer than I have.
