This phrase is originally from the Jungle Book(lol) but I have seen it used in countless anime(i.e Yu-gi-oh, Inuyasha, FMA, Trinity Blood(I think), and Hellsing), with different wording of course, but it carries the same meaning.
Miserability is a figment imagination. Pain is the whole concept of our minds because it makes us question it's reality.
