I really like Patlabor. The first couple of films were good though I didn't rate the third one. I always thought the series was meant to show how giant robots could realistically fit into modern day life, so the whole giant monster thing was a bit out of place.
Anyway, the TV series is also just as good, but very different - less thoughtful but with a lot of humour thrown in. I don't think people rate it much though. The third boxset (eps. 37-47) isn't available on Amazon and the manga sold badly in America and was cancelled. Real shame.
Has anyone seen the OVA's? I think I read that episodes in the original series reappeared in the TV series so I figure it's not worth owning both. Could be wrong though.
