機 I know, its the one use for machine read as "ki"

飛ぶ - tobu is the one for flying

combining it with fly + go + machine = airplane
飛行機 - hikouki - airplane
its still a flying machine but there is a to go by flying machine

yeah out of topic though, but I think more interesting
