This is how rumors get started...
"ganguro" literally translates as "black" and "face" but it has NOTHING to do with the racist imitation of "blackface" from '30s Americana.
(Do you really think that Japanese teenagers would pick up on a racist trend from 70 years ago and a different country?)
Ganguro has NOTHING to do with black people... it is a push against the traditional beauty tradition of subtle features, straight black hair and light skin-tones.
