A series that caught my eye [and is only 25 or something episodes, so requires little commitment] is Air Gear. Its a specific taste, but if you like the first few episodes, you'll love the rest.
Theres also the Manga to go along with it which carries the story onwards, and develops the episodes in more detail. Volume 5 is out in the UK tomorow
