ok, I have to make sure: do you have someone in mind, or do you just want a long-distance japanese boyfriend?
just the way you worded it I guess has me wondering. personally, I'd find a more local relationship if you can. the thing about long-distance, is it's a lot easier for someone to put on a front. I'm totally down with you meeting someone locally, falling in love, and then if things go long-distance from there, keep up the relationship. but...having a long-distance relationship with someone you haven't met seems senseless to me. they could be anyone...and let's face it, you're falling in love with words. they can say whatever they want to, they can show you whatever pictures they want to. it's not the same.
I dunno...sure, people put up a front in person too...but it's easier to read the red flags. and then the other part about it...is you have a pre-conceived notion of what they're like...because of what they said to you. but how they write and how they act are two totally different things. typing gives you more opportunity to carefully think about what you say before you say it.
seriously...I think if you just up and decide to date someone long-distance without knowing them in person first, I think you're setting yourself up for disaster. it does have a chance...but is it really worth it, when there's plenty of people locally?
then again, maybe I've been hurt too many times by the lies I've been fed by online relationships to look on it that optimistically...I dunno.
