short answer : no
long answer: having a collage degree is actually a visa requirement, so without one you cannot do the english teaching route. some how mastering the japanese language will not change a thing in that regard.
other things you can do
a) If you are from a country that has an agreement you can do a working holiday visa. this restricts you to part time work for 1 year or so.
b) marry a japanese national. no restrictions on work then
c) student visa at a language school. but that's not really a long term soloution and you're restricted to part time work anyway.
that's all I can think of. So yeah that collage BS makes things alot easier.
