A committee comprising Japanese TV stations and NHK held the first International Drama Festival last month in Tokyo to introduce Japanese TV dramas to a bigger audience, with hopes of replicating the overseas success of Japanese anime and video games.

"Regrettably, more dramas are imported here than exported. This is a small first step but we'd like to try to distribute Japanese-made TV dramas throughout the world," said the chairman of the committee.
