Imagine you taking a bath in the middle of the night in a outdoor onsen, when a light rain is falling down, with no one else except your friends.

I've only ever been to one onsen in Japan and that was at the Tomiura Royal Hotel somewhere in the Chiba prefecture (dad always scores discounted accommodation due to his work). Always a pleasant experience but I'm sure there are better ones out there.
