It seems like calling something 'manga' is meant to be a compliment, calling something an American Manga means it's 'better' than an American Comic. It's like when people say they love manga and don't like comics, that's kind of strange because manga are comics. You get good and bad comics, good and bad manga, one lot's created in Japan, the other isn't.
