ok you are a bit mistake about your words,

Promise:
you said -
右側 - うそく - usoku - right side, right hand
correct -
約束 - やくそく - yakusoku is the word for promise

Yummy/delicious:
you said -
油脂 - ゆし - yushi - fats, oils
諭旨 - ゆし - yushi - explanation, reasoning
油紙 - ゆし - yushi - oil paper
correct is:
美味い - うまい - umai - delicious
美味しい - おいしい - oishii - delicious
and more..

of course there are different words that mean the same thing but your examples were not the case. i'm happy to be proven wrong though.

i think you are confusing yourself with the way of reading a single character. there is 音読み(onyomi) which is the chinese reading and 訓読み (kunyomi) which is the japanese reading. a quick example:

this character 流 is read as follows:
流す - ながす - nagasu - to drain, float, shed (tears)
交流 - こうりゅう - kouryuu - intercourse (social/cultural) changing current

there are more ways to read this character but it is just an example to give the idea.
