I have spent several New Year's Eves in Japan, which at least the last few times meant watching Pride or K-1 (or both, usually) on competing stations. It is interesting to me how popular it is, especially among starlets and female announcers. I lived there when K-1 was getting really big, when Andy Hug (R.I.P.) and Ernesto Hoost and Peter Aerts ruled the scene.
I don't think the term MMA was used back then.
