In Japanese, the structure is
TIME + SUBJECT は(OPTIONAL I THINK...) PLACE + へ + VERB, etc.
So your sentence is basically correct. It just needs slight tweaking: 先週私
は郵便局
へ行きました
。そして手紙を出した。
Just remember that へ comes after a place. Also, I'm not sure if you know about the -te form which could be used in your sentence. I think this is where I learned about it:
te form
花鳥画は中国で始まって、唐朝の時代に日本へ入りまし た。
kachouga wa chuugoku de hajimatte, touchou no jidai ni nihon e hairimashita.
Flower-bird paintings started in China and entered Japan during the Tang Dynasty. (Hope that makes sense ^^)
