Whats the best way to learn Japanese -

I need help!I'm learning japanese and I have a course book,but how should I start.They give me a list of words that I have to study,but memorizing it is a pain.Any suggestions?
People can be cruel so don't let anyone make you sad.Ignore them or I'll beat them up for you ^o^
