I think the gothic lolita style is absolutely fabulous. I actually think more Americans should try it. It's getting a bit dull here.

And I agree with gloomth, it doesn't matter your weight/height/etc. If you don't have a problem with only a few people thinking that it does, oh well, they'll get over it. It's not their body and they can't tell you how to dress. Who says what they're wearing isn't right for their body type or age? People should be able to wear whatever makes them happy without other people judging them. It's against a lot of people's religion to judge, too. It's against mine.

However, I don't have much experience with disapproval. I occasionally wear clothes just as eye popping as gothic lolita clothes, and the only comments I get are, "ZOMG! You look awesome!" "I love those/your boots/makeup/clothes!" and "Your outfit is so hot!" And these comments are from rednecks and preps and all types of people, not just goths and my friends. I do get some comments like this from teachers: "You always dress in the weirdest clothes." It's still not considered negative.

But that's just my school. The people there are very respectful and pretty open minded, so I can't say that anyone trying the style would get the same compliments.

But, yeah, just go out dressed however you want and ignore everyone that looks at you negatively. It works for me.
