i've just got a couple of questions that im not really sure of

im staying in tokyo for 7 nights and was wondering if the JR rail pass would be worth it. obviously i would purchase the 7 day pass.

im planning on going on day trips to nagano on one day and to osaka on another. plus using the JR pass to travel around tokyo. but i've heard that the JR pass is only valid on the JR line and the JR yamonote line, is that correct?
