Chachava is right. You might be able to buy a book of ten tickets, at a 10% discount...which will still be more expensive than 8 to and from tickets you need to buy.
Buying train tickets in Japan is a "rite of passage" of sorts, but really, couldn't be any easier. As long as you know where you are going and where you are coming from, you will have no problem. No one will benefit from lying to you about the price (and it will be the same both ways, and every time you ride). After the first day you'll be an expert.
