For English-, French- or German-speaking peoples who want to make quick start with learning Japanese I can recommend very useful (in my opinion) web-site:

Minna no nihongo / Японский язык он-лайн

Besides lessons it contains also links to some useful utilities and soft.

PS. It's in Russian but in upper right angle there is button for translation to English, French or German.
