True, this is a Japan Forum (food included) but learning about foods of other cultures is a good thing. Actually, I would love to see more post about foods and customs from other cultures.
We Japanese people eat many foods that some have come to view as Japanese foods but in fact they came from other countries.
Examples:
ラーメン = raamen, is actually Chinese style noodles
カレー = curry, is actually an Indian dish
マボ豆腐 = mabodofu, is actually a Chinese dish
