i guess you now have the right to say,
that it was a waste.
That my efforts were just thrown away.
I wanted you to be happy,
I really did.
I didn’t want to hurt you,
But I guess I don’t have the power,
The power to save from the darkness.
I want to return you to the light.
And never let you out of my sight.
You always seem to fall,
Into the darkest of places,
And ive have always been there to pull you out.
Im afraid that this time I was to late.

I found the ladder,
Go ahead give it a try.
Ill be right under you,
Helping you up,
Every step off the way.
But the unthinkable happened.
You fell off that ladder,
When you were nearly at the top.
That image still makes my heart stop.
I grabbed your hand,
To make sure you didn’t fall,
I sighed in relief,
You smiled at me.
I pulled you up,
Up to the ladder,
You stood there,
And just stared.
I asked what was wrong.
But what a foolish thing to ask.
You smiled again ,
And asked me to do the same.
I realized what was going on,
And held onto your shirt.
“let go” you said.
I shook my head and squeaked out a “no”.
You grabbed my hand and yanked it off.
You looked at me again and smiled.
The same smile that haunted me to that day.
The one that still does today,
“well at least smile when im gone, every now and again.
To show me your happy,
Just do me a favor,
And don’t forget me”
You kissed my cheek.
Then you jumped into the darkness.
Maybe…just maybe…
If I had said something then…….
I would still be able to see you again.
