Kanji, You shouldn't base all your opinions on what Arthur Golden wrote... afterall, Memoirs of a geisha is a fictional story, even if he did his research to write the novel. That means, he would have left things out and would have added thing... Of course, I'm not implying that Geisha's were prostitutes, I am simply pointing out that you shouldn't be so confident about yourself when you base your information on a fictional story!
I suggest you read Geisha of Gion by M Iwasaki. A.Golden based a lot of his book on the info this woman gave him, but surprisingly, her account differs greatly from that of Memoirs of a Geisha... So if you wanna base your opinion on a good read book, I'd suggest this one, as it's her autobiography.
