I think that it really depends on your situation.
If you are famous enough and have a japanese impresario, he/she can help you to get the visa you need.
The entire point is to figure out if you can obtain a long-term visa or not.
You can ask for a Entertainment visa, but I don't know what are the conditions to obtain it. Other long terms visas often need the Certificate of Eligibility, and it is better to have a degree when applying for it.
