Oh...yeah.
My guess is both "sides" are probably true to a degree. Hiromi says he is Japanese, but he's really only 1/4 Japanese, and that's what people are responding to. He says he is Japanese, but his Japanese writing skills are not those of a native speaker, and the native speakers are calling him out on it. Also he says he lives in Yokohama, which is probably technically true, as his mother lives there, but now he is in Antwerp living with his father. All little things that add up to people, well, getting confused. There was a little misrepresentation that got over-hyped and names started getting called and it got very ugly.
