That might be it... The american friends I've got are students in Science and have never had a real interest in langauges... If D is proper, formal English, then surely that ought to be the correct answer in an English exam... In fact, why would "common verbage" even be taught?? Anyway, the teacher I got is not so bright... She makes endless mistakes in her spoken English, so I'm not gonna trust what she says...
