I'm not a kind of beginner, but I know my english isn't very close to perfection . So I'm trying to work a little each day, as I really like to listen it, write it and think by it.

To answer your question more, a beginner remains a beginner if he's (or she's) not able to think entirely in his/her mind the sentence that he/she 's trying to write or say in the foreign tongue. Example: when I write or talk in english, I think in english. If I write or talk in japanese or german, I think in french then translate. So in these tongues I'm an absolute beginner anyway.

Well, then I am a true beginner in French. And Spanish. And I don't even have the basics down for Japanese yet. =P

I did kind of start to say Spanish in my head a little bit last year, though. But I still only knew sentences for some things.

They crawl in your head
They dig in your bones
If you let them, they won't let go
They have no hope
They have no soul
If you let them then they'll take yours
