Ok, here's my word of the day:

定食 (ていしょく) = a set meal

It often consists of entree, rice, soup, pickles, etc. There are many kinds of 定食 available at restaurants in Japan and they are usually priced very reasonably.

My favorite is the Teishoku of the Day at the corner restaurant in my neighborhood in central Tokyo. They give you a two-item entree everyday and it's only 680 yen. Unbeatable!
