Transferring credits from one country to another is difficult wherever you are heading to.

Around me many people took exchange programs to Europe and only few of them got to transfer some classes that they have taken over there back in the US.

The best choice for you is to study Japanese alongside with Journalism, and then apply for exchange programs.

Since the system is different and what you study in college is irrelevant in Japan unless you are in the science related majors.

If your Japanese is good enough, I'm sure there would be many options available for you in the future.

There are English newspapers like Japan Times and Daily Yomiuri.

And also Sankei Shinbun has its North American version so there are many branches in the North America.

If you want to get into TV, CNN has correspondents in Japan so you might as well look into it.
