I think you`d find that racial discrimination in relationships is VERY much alive in the US. Ask an average white family how they`d feel if their son or daughter brought home a black boyfriend/girlfriend. It happens, though perhaps not to the same extent, with Asian - white relationships. (And may very well happen with other interracial couples... I am white myself so can`t comment on anything other than how I know my family would react.)
I had people stopping me on the bus when we were visiting the US and asking me why I was with someone who wasn`t "nice and white" like me. The worst experience in Japan was hearing someone tell my then boyfriend in hushed tones that I was only after him for his money and a visa. In the US, everyone over 50 had an opinion and no qualms about showing it openly when we were out shopping. Shaking theirs heads at me, etc.

San Francisco, New York, etc are very accepting. But not everywhere is San Francisco.

I believe that yes, indeed, when it comes to relationships and marriage there is quite a bit of discrimination. But no more than in the US.

I have to admit it has been 15 years since I had to rent an apartment in Japan, for example. I'll walk into a fudosan next time I'm in the country and see if they show me a list of apartments. I'll post the results here.
I`ve never had a problem in the past 9 years, although I can`t comment on the last 3 as we bought a place. When looking, I had no problems going to see places for sale either.

If anyone is trying to find me… Tamyuun on Instagram is probably the easiest.
