I agree fully with MMM.

Just as long as you're grounded you should be fine. I think that in most places of the world, obsessive "nerds" are shunned (more or less) by many..
I'm not saying that's not bad, just that it's how it is.

Although in my experience having a "nerdy" interest aint something that one gets so much grief over. I just think that people often thinks obsession is un-healthy in some way, and also they usually don't want people to try and "convert" them.

I think Japan is kinda similar. Sure they have lots of "cartoons", and people of all ages read them. But anime isn't like bugs bunny, and all japanese people aint otakus (even if they read a few mangas).
