There seems to be so much misinformation in this thread. As a Japanese native speaker, I'd like to help clarify a few items if not everything.
1. Forget about that website that generates your Japanese name from your original name. That's just rediculous. Why do you even think that someone can give you both Japanese first name and last name? Your name will stay the same except for the pronunciation and the way it's written. If your name is John Smith, it will be ジョン・スミス(pronounced 'Jon Sumisu'). It will NEVER be Takeshi Yamamoto.
2. Almost no parents would name their daughter (or son) Shinko because it sounds too much like the colloquial word for a male body part that I won't identify on JF.
3. When you hear "Japanese" names in manga/anime/video games, don't automatically think they actually exist in the real world. I've never met or heard of a female named Shun. It sounds very masculine in the Japanese ear.
