I have a sake set made from bamboo that I actually use for umeshu. Its rather nice and it seems to enhance the mellow tones of the wine.

Or was nice till I did something stupid.

I poured soju in one of the cups the other night, and it was awful.

I am not sure whether the soju leached something from the bamboo itself or the umeshu residue that had become part of the wood, but the result was undrinkable. I hope that the thorough rinsing of the sup restores it so that my choya is not tainted the next time I use that cup.

Anyone no whether soju works well in masu cups. I would think its close enough to sake to be ok, but now I am not sure I want to try it. Kinda the same way I don't want karen sake from a cedar cup. Its the wrong blend of scents and flavors for me.
