As I think about it, the only difference between this feature and the last three is he doesn't have any human actors in front of a green screen this time. Lucas is not capable of the depth required from most true anime anyway; sure he's great with flashy effects but he can't tell a story or develop characters worth a damn. (sorry all you hardcore Star Wars fans out there but--and I did enjoy the movies--all the Star Wars films were shallow archetypal fairy tales with limited depth and character development)

They say he hates actors. And of cours they're fairy tales. But that's why we loved them. I saw the original in the theater when I was six. At that time, there wasn't really anyone truly tapping into the archtypes of the human mind that make-up folklore for movies. folk-lore is also almost dead in the modern world. He gave us a myth that reverberated with the people who needed one.
