I'll rephrase. Most that I know have joined for the reasons I've mentioned...mostly the latter. Couldn't find work and had to do something to make an income.

You should find my post insulting because it was meant to be.
Have I in any way insulted your opinion or your purposely? I respect your opinion on why you choose to vote for McCain, even if I don't agree with it. Things would go much smoother around here if more people actually did that.

In my post I said "most soldiers", not all. There are some who enlist because of a lack of other options, but that number is, and always has been a minority.
I said "most" too, not "all", so I don't see what the problem is. I know people who join the service because they truly want to. For instance, my mother's friend's son enlisted, and was shipped off to Iraq last September. His mother was, and still, a nervous wreck over it.

Since when is "political" experience become a "must-have" on one's resume if one wants to be a leader? The word "politician" is synonymous with "crook" in modern language. Is there a rule that says we must replace crooks with more crooks? America is supposed to be led by the people, not by a hereditary class of politicians.
I'd still put someone who's been a governor or a mayor and weigh that experience over military, especially since not everyone has been in the military.

I disagree with this. As I said much earlier in the other thread, I weigh the pros and cons of the issues that each candidate proposes. Whichever candidate seems to have the most pros, that I agree will benefit the country, that's what I go with. To me, Obama has more pros than McCain's when it comes to the issues, and imo, "issues" should be all that matters, not the experience factor since, technically all of the candidates are "inexperienced" since neither has ever held the job of "President" or "Vice President" before.

McCain sucks, I'll agree, but he sucks less than the alternative.
I don't feel he sucks, I just don't agree with the policies he's proposed, especially when it comes to abortion issues.

Working in Washington, in that never-never land of schemes, scandals, and corruption, is supposed to make you a better leader?
Not necessarily, but a person who's actually held some type of a political office, I feel should hold more weight than someone who's worked in the military, unless, that person did something that involved actually leading something or had a job pertaining to it. To my knowledge, and correct me if I'm wrong, McCain hasn't.
