It really depends upon your location. In the north, there is usually significant amounts of snow. As you head further south it really starts to depend on the year. Where I live is pretty much in the middle and we will get years with a lot of snow and years without any at all. (The year before last, I believe, left us with tons of snow - but last year was virtually snow free. )

Japan is a very long and thin country stretching over quite a distance. There is a lot of variety in the average temperatures, level of snow, etc.
