If:
-you have never been to Japan,
-you have not lived in Japan for at least 2 years,
-you don't understand Japanese,
-you don't fully command the Japanese culture,
-you are not Japanese in some way, shape, or form,
then do not, under any circumstances, write a piece of fiction centered around Japanese people, unless you plan on giving it the title, "Another Crappy Piece of Fiction About a People I Don't Fully Understand but Enjoy Anyway Since They're So Nice."
If, however, you do not meet any of the above requirements, then write and publish that work ASAP.
And stop calling yourself a fanfiction author. That's the biggest oxymoron I've heard in a while.
