umm ok... let's think proportionally. although her hand is closer to us than her face (thinking three dimensional here) there isn't a significant degree of foreshortening. therefore the proportion of the hands and face should still be fairly relative to each other. in his drawing her palm would cover almost half of her face. it should cover only about 1/4 - 1/3 of the face.
here I've drawn out the length of her palm and then put that same line on her face. for comparison i've also done the same thing to myself. I've also drawn the approximate shape of her head under her hat, hair, and all that jazz, and if it still doesn't look too small then I suck and I'm wrong
