Native words are written in Kanji, Hiragana, or in combinations of both. But onomatopoeias are very often written in Katakana alone.

"Imported" words are written in different systems depending on where they were imported from. Those imported from China are written entirely in Kanji. Words imported from 'Western' countries are written entirely in Katakana.

So anything written by a teenager is written in the combination of all three systems.
