What do you mean exactly by afternoon? By the sounds of it, you mean after school, and as you're in England, I'm assuming you mean after 5pm... ? If that's the case, then yeah, of course that'll mess things up.
Take a look at countries like Spain, Morocco, Algeria, and basically most of the mediterranean countries. They all have this nap time. The spanish call it Siesta I think
