... I don't think heat is a good enough explanation for it. Toureg, desert berbers don't have naps like this and the desert is hotter than Spain. In north African countries, they have this nap during winter... Maybe heat was the logical explanation before and has been accepted as that even today, but I would say it's a factor, not a reason.
Anyway, here is a little graph to show how the body temp changes in people. Ignore the times, as this is simply an example and times vary slightly from person to person. Anyway, the basic concept is, as the temp rises, you're waking up and getting more energy, as it decreases, you become more tired and sleepy etc.
