Isn't the term Otaku frowned upon in Japan ? I heard something like this. I don't recall them liking such a term.

In the US. being an Otaku is just like belonging to a certain clique, like Goths or skateboarders.

Kind of veering off topic here, so let me get to my point. I wouldn't necessarily call my self an Otaku, but maybe not calling myself that would be a lie... I don't know really, I do go "crazy" for certain animes and mangas, but I've never been over-taken by it.

I do want to go to Japan, but not really for the animes or manga.

Sure there is a lot of rare merchandise there, but I'd rather go for the sight-seeing to walk around the major cities with a camera. Then take a bus or a subway to some forest village with all those beautiful temples. That's more of a reason for me to want to go.
