Hmm well i can tell you how i make it. Whether it is exactly traditional or not or even if it tastes as good as in japan (which im sure it doesn't). But it does taste on par with what ive had around my house which is around Chicago.

first off do you have a rice cooker? If not i would recommend it, especially if your going to eat alot of rice/ sushi. However if you have never had sushi and dont know if you like it that you may what to hold off so you dont waste money on something you may never use again.

Well actually i will update this in a second i have the exact measurements written down somewhere.

But what you will need is:
fish
sugar
salt
rice vineager
rice
kombu which is kelp probably not necesary but i always use it
nori which is what the sushi rolls are rolled in. not needed if you arent planning on makeing rolls
large pan/bowl to mix rice with vineager solution. More on that later.
