It's a cheapened version of something classic, so it's easy to understand for less... mentally gifted people. It's simple, so they won't have to think so hard. It's nonviolent and full of cute, immortal guys who love teenage girls. Plus, fangirls work on a hivemind, so they enjoy what other people think is cool.
