I was given a preventative for a while, but I found that I`d rather just suffer through the headaches themselves (maybe once every two weeks unless I go two nights without enough sleep... That always triggers one.) than feel groggy and like crap all the time to avoid them. We tried two different drugs for prevention and they both made me feel substantially worse through the day.
I`ve actually never tried a prescription pain killer for the headaches themselves. I am still able to function (minus half the vision in my right eye), so figured I could deal without. Or rather, I know someone who was given serious pain killers for their migraines and ended up addicted so... I`ve always passed. Excedrin works well enough. Plus, if the headache goes away with medication, I don`t get that extra special magical euphoric feeling when it finally does go away!
I have to wonder how many people are really having migraines, and how many are just having bad headaches... Not to doubt anyone here, but it seems like a lot of people think that a migraine is just a bad headache.
